Sheep rearing expanding fast in Joypurhat

JOYPURHAT, Jan 24: A good number of people of the district has attained financial solvency by rearing sheep.
According to the Department of Livestock Services, Joypurhat, office sources, many people of Akkelpur, Kalai, Panchbibi, Khetlal and Sadar upazilas have changed their socio-economic condition by rearing sheep commercially. They have been making handsome money, sources added.
"I bought six sheep from Kushtia two years ago at Tk 9,500 to rear them at my homestead," said farmer Abur Hider Md Mukadir in Kalai municipal area.
He further said, "Now I have a total of 30 sheep. My farm is expanding gradually."
District livestock officer Md Abdus Alam Sonar said sheep rearing is profitable. Poor and unemployed youths can attain self-reliance from commercial rearing of sheep in the district.
