BOGURA, July 01: Commercial sheep rearing has been expanding in the district over the last few years.

A good number of youths in Dupchanchia, Kahaloo, Sherpur, Sonatola, Sariakandi, Gabtoly and Adamdighi upazilas of the district are now self-reliant from sheep rearing.

Sources said many livestock farm owners are getting interested in sheep farming leaving other profession.

A sheep gives birth to two to five lambs twice a year. A full grown sheep, aged nearly two years, produces 35 kg to 40 kg of fresh meat.

"I have set up a sheep farm at my house. I have already made over Tk 0.2 million this year", said farmer Husain Ali of Sherpur upazila.

Another farmer Abdul Awal said he shows more interest to sheep farming as it requires low cost.

He said his flock grazes in the char area round the year.

Besides a farmer can start the farming investing Tk 0.1 to Tk 0.2 million.
