Sirajganj clash leaves one dead

SIRAJGANJ, Oct 13 (UNB): A man was killed and 17 others were injured in a clash between two rival groups over land-related dispute at Atbangla village in Shahjadpur upazila on Sunday.

The deceased was identified as Mafij Uddin, 65, a resident of the village.

Locals said there was a long standing conflict between one Abdus Sattar and Asadul of the village over the ownership of a piece of land.

They locked into an altercation over the issue in the afternoon, leading to a clash.

Equipped with sharp weapons they attacked each another that left Mafij, a supporter of Asadul group, dead on the spot and 17 others injured. Being informed, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.

Police recovered the body and sent it to sadar hospital morgue for an autopsy. Two of the injured were sent to Pabna Hospital as their condition deteriorated.

Hasan Shamim Iqbal, officer-in-charge of Shahjadpur Police Station, confirmed the incident.
