Six killed in road accidents

Six people were killed and 18 others were injured in separate road accidents in Habiganj and Munshiganj on Monday, report agencies
in Habigang, at least four people have been killed and 15 injured in a head-on collision between a bus and a microbus in Habiganj's Shayestaganj.
The accident occurred near the Shahjibazar power plant on the Dhaka-Sylhet Highway around 3:00 pm on Monday, said Saleh Ahmed, officer-in-charge of Shayestaganj Highway thana.
The victims could not be identified immediately.
A bus operated by Al Mobaraka Paribahan ploughed into a Sylhet-bound microbus travelling in the opposite direction, wrecking the front ends of both vehicles, Saleh said.
One person died on the spot. Three others succumbed to injuries in hospital. The people who were injured in the accident are currently receiving treatment at the Habiganj Sadar Hospital, he added.
"It had been raining in the power plant area since the afternoon. We suspect the drivers were affected by the weather and lost control."
The accident caused snarl-ups on both sides of the highway. Police later brought the situation under control and traffic gradually returned to normal.
In Munshiganj, two people were killed and three others, including a child were injured after a truck overturned on the north viaduct of the Padma Bridge on Sunday night.
The dead are Raju Khandakar (45) and Kawser (23) while the injured are Mukta Akter (25), wife of Raju Khandakar, their one and a half year old daughter Fatema Khandkar and Omar Farooq (47).
The accident occured around 10:00 pm when the truck carrying empty gas cylinders from Shariatpur to Dhaka lost control and overturned between pillars 15 and 16 on the bridge, leaving two people dead on the spot and three others critically injured.
The injured were sent to Dhaka Mitford Medical College Hospital in critical condition, said Alamgir Hossain, officer in charge of Padma North thana.
The body has been kept at the Srinagar Health Complex, added the OC.
