NILPHAMARI, Oct 1: Prior to the Eid-ul-Azha, the small raw hide traders of Nilphamari district asked the government to introduce licences or identity cards for them. They sought so to rein non-bonafide hide traders of the district who unlawfully dominate the Eid-Ul-Azha hide market.

The hide traders also sought bank loans on easy terms to carry their trade smoothly. Sources said they have also expressed their concern over the scarcity of non-iodized salt which is very essential for the preservation of raw hide.

In the past the scarcity of non iodized salt had forced the small hide traders to sell their collected raw hides to big business at cheaper prices causing huge losses.

This year the price of this particular variety of salt has already increased in the district just on the eve of Eid-ul-Azha.

Sources added the local hide traders pleaded with the government to set up several tanneries in the region. This will enormously benefit the small hide traders and at the same time it will create employment opportunity for local people.
