SYLHET, Sept 28: Sylhet City Corporation (SCC) Mayor Ariful Haque Chwodhruy announced the corporation's Tk 7.43 billion budget for the 2020-2021 fiscal through a virtual press conference from his office on Monday afternoon.
Addressing the conference, he said due to the Covid-19 situation the budget announcement has been delayed. The mayor and his wife recovered from the disease recently.
In the budget, the major income has been shown from heads like holding tax- Tk 445.6 million, property sale tax Tk 8.6 million, tax on building construction and reconstruction Tk 20 million, tax on professionals Tk 65 million, tax on advertisement Tk 12.5 million, monthly fee from water supply connections Tk 40 million and new water connection and reconnections fee Tk 10 million while setting tubewell and renewal fee Tk 15 million.
Some important heads of expenditure includes, Tk 36.8 million in general revenue, Tk 138.9 million for health service and sanitation, Tk 25 million for disaster management and pump house maintenance and water line repair Tk 122.4 million.
However, the programme for road, bridge, culvert, construction and reconstruction, maintenance of different structures and tools would cost Tk 280.5 from the SCC's own fund.
The budget showed Tk 204.5 million in government funding in grant, special development assistance, development assistance, infrastructure development and for procurement of modern equipment and tools for waste management etc.
The SCC would also implement Laldighi market construction, multistoried building at Dhopadighi, City market building reconstruction and staff residential quarter construction at a total cost of Tk 970 million.
The mayor also informed the World Bank had extended time for completing the Tk 600 million sanitary landfill project at Surban Lalmatia and Tk 650 million Kodomtoli Central Bus Terminal modernization project till June 20121 due to Covid-19 pandemic.
He sought all out cooperation from the city dwellers for the development programmes as well as for other initiatives taken for making Sylhet a planned city. SCC ward councillors and officials also joined.
