SYLHET, Mar 23: Fultola Union Health and Family Welfare Centre in Juri upazila of Moulvibazar district remains closed almost all working days due to staff and medicine shortages.
Sources say about 40,000 people of remote villages in Juri upazila are being deprived of medical services.
Locals allege that the healthcare centre remains almost closed on most working days due to absence of physician, sub-assistant community medical officer and other staff members.
Besides, its atmosphere is always dirty with animals grazing around.
During a visit to the health centre, the rooms of the staff members were found shut. None of them was present there.
The posts of pharmacist and office help had long been lying vacant.
However, Jyatna Begum has been serving as a family planning visitor and Nilufa Yeasmin as assistant. They open the health centre to attend some poor patients.
A good number of local people allege that there are three tea gardens in Fultola area, but the authorities concerned have no attention to the health sub-centre.
That's why patients have to go the upazila headquarters for treatment.
An official at the upazila family planning office said "We informed the district authorities about the sub-centre's staff shortage and other problems."
