Stern action against acid throwers called for

NARSINGDI, Feb 12 (BSS): Speakers at a conference recently called upon all to extend their help to the concerned organization for ensuring legal action against acid- throwers.

Acid Survivors Foundation in association with a local non government organization Poverty Alleviation through Participatory Rural Initiatives (PAPRI) organised the conference at the conference room of Deputy Commissioner.

Deputy Commissioner of Narsingdi Obaidul Azam attended the conference as the chief guest with Executive Director of PAPRI Abu Baset in the chair.

The speakers said acid attack is one of the most heinous crimes against women. They urged all to come forward to help the acid survivors and stop acid attacks on women in the society.

The speakers also urged the government and affluent section of the society to come forward to rehabilitate the acid survivors by creating jobs opportunities and other facilities for them.

Acid survivor Elasi Begum of Shibpur upazila in the district will be accorded reception on February 21 as 'Joyeeta woman' for proving her expertise and efficiency in every field and achieving tremendous success in building an advance society for acid survivors, sources said.
