Stern action against acid-throwers urged

JOYPURHAT, Jun 24 (BSS): Speakers at a view exchange meeting today called upon all to extend their help to the concerned organisation for ensuring legal action against the acid-throwers.

Acid Survivors Foundation and Joypurhat District Acid Control Committee jointly organised the meeting for acid buyers, sellers and users at the conference room of Deputy Commissioner supported by BRAC and financial assistance of NGO Manusher Janno. Additional District Magistrate Khorshed Alam presided over the meeting.

District women welfare officer Sabina Sultana, district representative of BRAC Aktarul Islam, Apurba Sirker, secretary of district NGO Forum, Kalai Degree collage principal Nizam Uddin, ADP Manager of World Vision Gregori Shitol Terera and Acid victims Joly Akter, Tuli and Jahirul Islam were present, among others.

The speakers said acid attack is one of the most heinous crimes against women. They urged all to come forward to help the acid survivors and stop acid attacks on women in the society.

The speakers also urged the government and affluent section of the society to come forward to rehabilitate the acid survivors by creating job opportunities and other facilities for them.
