Storm kills 3 in dists

NOAGOAN, Apr 5 (BSS): One person was killed when branches of a tree fell on him on Friday night at Patnitola when hailstorm swept over the area.

Besides, two other persons were injured by wall collapse and falling of branches of trees. Hailstorm also damaged standing IRRI-Boro crop.

Palong Thana police of Shariatpur sadar upazila informed that one Kalam Sheikh, 45 was killed by thunder bolt when he was working in a jute field this morning.Kalam hailed from north Binodhpur of the district.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Patnitola upazila of Naogaon Abul Hayat Md. Rafiq confirmed the killing of one person named Sahidul Islam 35.

He said hailstorm also damaged standing IRRI-Boro crops, uprooted trees and blown away many houses.

UNO said Sahidul Islam was admitted to Patnitola Health Complex. But Sahidul Islam succumbed to his injuries on way to Rajshahi medical College Hospital after his condition deteriorated.

UNB reports from Satkhira: A housewife was killed when a tree collapsed on her during a storm that swept Pratapnagar village in Ashashuni upazila on Friday.

The deceased was identified as Ramesa Khatun, 45, wife of Asgar Ali of the village.

Witnesses said a mango tree collapsed on Ramesa as a storm ripped through the village at about 10:00 am, leaving her critically injured.

Later, she was rushed to a local clinic where she succumbed to her injuris on Friday night.
