Successful introduction of PCV, IPV for saving babies stressed

RANGPUR, Mar 29 (BSS): Health experts at an advocacy workshop have stressed the need for successful introduction of Pneumococcal Conjugate Vaccine (PCV) and Inactivated Polio Vaccine (IPV) to save the babies from many deadly diseases.
They were addressing the workshop on 'Introduction of PCV and IPV in Routine EPI Programmes' organised by the district health administration at the conference room of the Civil Surgeon in the city recently. The Directorate General of Health Services under the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, World Health Organisation (WHO) and GAVI extended cooperation in arranging the day-long advocacy workshop.
Rangpur Divisional Director (Health) Dr Sukumar Roy attended and addressed the advocacy workshop as the chief guest with Civil Surgeon of Rangpur Dr Mozammel Hossain in the chair.
District Primary Education Officer Khalilur Rahman, Surveillance Medical Officer of the WHO for Rangpur division Dr Shamim Hossain and Medical Officer Dr Ruhul Amin addressed the workshop as the special guests.
Divisional, district and upazila level health officials, physicians of different government departments, hospitals and health complexes, civil society members, professionals and local elite took part in the workshop.
In their speeches, the health experts narrated importance of introducing immunisation of PCV and IPV with the routine EPI (extended programme of immunisation) for under one-year age group babies to save them from many deadly diseases. They informed the workshop that each of the under one-year age group baby will have to be taken to the immunisation centres six times to take all these vaccines six times to remain safe from pneumococcal pneumonia and many deadly diseases.
