Sudden collapse of embankment worries Sirajganj villagers

SIRAJGANJ, Mar 19: Villagers of Khas Kaulia under Chouhali upazila in the district are worried due to sudden collapse of some 30 metre-long embankment.

A good number of farmers said a vast tract of cropland may go under water during rainy season.

Meanwhile, some cultivators have already been affected in the last few days, he added.

According to the Water Development Board (WDB), a total of Tk 1090 million has been allotted to render construction of 7.0 km-long embankment this fiscal year.

Besides, the noted point had been collapsed 15 times last year due to severe flood like situation. The authority concerned had tried heart to keep the situation under control, sources said.

Acting UNO Anisur Rahman said he has already informed about the situation and the measure steps have already been taken to save the area.

Executive engineer of Water Development Board, Tangail, Shajahan Shiraj said, "We are taking effective step to control the situation. "

He urged the peasants not to be worried.
