Sugarcane cultivation to increase in CHT

RANGAMATI, June 8 (BSS): Directorate of Agriculture Extension (DAE) has taken a massive sugarcane cultivation programme in the current season in three hill districts of Chittagong Hill Tracts.

The DAE observes that the cash crop which has a high demand in the region and outside can yield good profit with less production and labour costs.

Farmers in Kaptai, Kawkhali, Razasthali, Naniarchor, Langadu and Baghaichari upazila of Rangamati, Dighinala, Panchari, Mohalchari, Matiranga, Luxmichari and sadar upazila of Khagrachhari and all the seven upazila of Bandarban are expecting bumper output of the crop this year as they had grown sugarcane through a scientific method in consultation and with logistic support of DAE, Additional Director of Rangamati Region of DAE, Harunur Rashid said.

A total of 2,300 hectares of land has been brought under sugarcane cultivation in the three hill districts of CHT this year against the target of 2,700 hectares.
