MAGURA, Apr 22: Appeal for payment of outstanding bill of  Tk 10 million by Magura  sugarcane farmers is going unheeded for about a year .

According to Magura Agriculture Extension Department, a total of 621 acres of land has been brought under sugarcane cultivation in the district this year.

A total of 986 farmers in the district are cultivating sugarcane.

About one thousand sugarcane farmers in the district are passing hard time due to non payment of bill by sugar mill authority. In this situation sugarcane cultivation is facing a setback in the district.

Magura farmers sources informed last year they supplied 2500 maunds of sugarcane  to Modhukhali sugar mill. But the mill authority is yet pay the bill. In this situation a good number of farmers in the district abstained from sugarcane farming this year for want of cash money.

When contacted Modhukhali sugar mills limited assistant manager, Probir Mollik admitted that the mill authority is yet to pay the bill of about Tk 10 million of Magura sugarcane farmers. 'Huge amount of sugar is left unsold in the mill godown. For this we are facing difficulties to pay the bill of sugarcane farmers', he said.
