Summer fruits plenty but prices stay high in Gopalganj

GOPALGANJ, Jun 17: A wide variety of summer fruits have arrived in Gopalganj district headquarter markets.
Mango, litchi, pineapple, banana, black-berry, jack-fruit etc. are available in the district markets in abundance.
But the price of fruits are high and beyond the buying capacity of the poor people. The same condition prevails in Upazila headquarter markets in the district.
Shah Alam Mollah (65), a fruit traders of Natun Bazar in Gopalganj city told the F.E. that all types of fruits have arrived in the market but they were compelled to sell them at high prices as they had to buy those at high rates from wholesale market.
Local varieties of mango is being sold at Tk. 75 to Tk. 80 per kilogram (kg), one kilogram of black-berry is being sold at Tk. 100 to 120, one hundred of litchi is being sold Tk. 350 to Tk. 400, a small sized of pineapple at Tk. 40 to Tk. 45, a medium-size ripe jackfruit at Tk. 150 to Tk. 200 and one quartet of banana (Sobri) is now sold at Tk. 40 to Tk. 45.
