Syedpur-Chilahati rail route work nearing completion

NILPHAMARI, Aug 28: Syedpur Chilahati rail route renovation, rehabilitation and replacement works are nearing completion. A private company MAPZ-TTCL-JV was contracted at Tk 1.43 billion for the entire work. The works include 63.90 km railway track replacement and infrastructure renovation of all the nine railway stations.

Sources said out of the different categories of works 80 per cent of the railway track replacement works has been done and 80 per cent of infrastructure of the railway stations has been completed. About 90 per cent of the infrastructure works such as passenger shades, infrastructure of deep tubewell, overhead water tank and residential quarters has been completed.

The new infrastructure at Chilahati would enable the intercity trains to go up to there and it would also help establish proposed land port of the region. The rail route will also create connectivity to Nepal, Bhutan and seven sister states of India and reopen Chilahati-Holdibari (India) rail route which was closed in 1965 during the Indo-Pak war.
