Syedpur Railway workshop has enough logistics to build coaches

NILPHAMARI, Sept 8: There prevails ample logistic to build new Railway passenger coaches in Syedpur Railway workshop which are now being imported at a cost of huge foreign exchange.

While contacted an official of the workshop said one new passenger coach may be built at a cost of only Tk15 million which if imported would cost Tk 30 million at least. He mentioned that one new passenger coach was built on experimental basis recently.

Sources added, at present broken and dilapidated passenger coaches are being repaired in the workshop. While contacted workshop manager Kudrat E Khuda said in the last three months the workshop repaired 83 dilapidated and old passenger coaches in the workshop which were handed over to the traffic section.

Sources mentioned establishment in 1870 on 110 hectares on land the workshop area is enough to accommodate more than three other workshops like this one. The workshop is now suffering from acute manpower shortage. At present there are only 1300 workers and employees in the workshop whereas more than 11000 workers were there in the past.
