T-Aman harvest starts in Jessore

JESSORE, Oct 28: Farmers of the district have started harvesting of T-Aman paddy of current season in the district with much enthusiasm and happy mood as they are getting reasonably high price against the crop.

Official sources said Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE)set a target to cultivate  in a total of 1,30,555 hectares of land in the district  this year with the production target of  3,52,622 metric tonnes of rice.

In the mid-season, cultivation of T- Aman paddy was hampered due to a drought like situation but later the target fixed by the department was achieved after adequate rainfall. Of the total, some 26,251 hectares of land were brought under the cultivation in Sadar Upazila, 18,801 in Sarsa, 12,305 in Cowgasha, 17,501 in Jhikorgasa, 21,102in Monirampur,16,603 in Bagharpara,7,700 in Avoynogor and9,266 in Keshobpur Upazila in the district, sources said.

Crops production specialist of DAE Nittyo Ronjon Biswas said favourable climatic condition, proper distributions of high quality seed  of BADC and BMDA, timely  supply of fertilisers and other agri-inputs to the growers are the reasons behind the successful production.

The harvest of short duration paddy like BRRI dhan-33 ,BRRI DHAN-39 ,BIRRI-30,BINA-7, Sorna, Guti Sorna has already been completed in the district with a desired production of the varieties, DAE Alimur Rahman said
