TANGAIL, Dec 23: Cauliflower growers in the district are happy as they are getting fair market prices of their produce this season.
According to the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE), some 1,050 hectares of land have been brought under farming of cauliflower with the production target of 24,150 tonnes.
Growers are achieving good yield with fair market prices.
Everyday a large amount of cauliflower is being sent to different districts across the country for high demand.
Cauliflower grower Sharfan Ali of Miachan Joogni village under Sadar upazila said he has been cultivating the winter vegetable over the three consecutive years and making a healthy profit.
Upazila agriculture officials said soil and weather of the district are suitable for growing cauliflower. Farming of the winter delicacy is profit.
Every season a vast tract of land come under the production of cauliflower, he added.
A good number of farmers of the district have changed their financial condition by farming cauliflower commercially, they added.
Hasan Ali of Sadar upazila said he cultivated the vegetable on two bighas of land this season.
He has made a profit of Tk 25,000 till the date.
The grower further said he expects Tk 30,000 more till the end of the season.
Traders said fresh cauliflower has flooded the local kitchen markets across the district due to good production.
Sub assistant agri-culture officer of DAE Nargis Akhter said every season a good number of growers bring new land under the production of cauliflower in the district.
Lucrative profit encourages the farmers to grow the item commercially.
