ISLAMIC UNIVERSITY, Kushtia, Mar 05: Monosodium glutamate salt known as tasting salt is used for increasing the taste of food in Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Hall of Islamic University (IU).
According to modern medical science, long-term consumption of these salt foods puts humans at risk of developing various serious diseases, including cancer, high blood pressure, vision loss, headaches and mental retardation.
During a visit to the hall, this correspondent knew that this salt was often used to enhance the taste of the food in the residential hall.
Hasib Ahmed, a resident student of the hall, told the Financial Express that the quality of food in the hall has never improved. Moreover, tasty salt is often used in hall food to enhance the food taste.
"Since we have no other way to survive, we have to knowingly consume poisonous food. I doubt if there is any nutrition in the food in the hall."
Abu Bakar Siddique, the resident hall dining manager, said, "We don't always add tasty salt to food. Sometimes, I give a little so that the food is good to eat."
Professor Dr Abdus Samad of the nutrition and food technology department said consumption of tasty salty foods can lead to high blood pressure, eyesight loss, and even kidney stones in students. If this salt is used in hall food, they should be discouraged.
Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Hall Provost Professor Dr Sheikh ABM Zakir Hossain told the FE, "I've come to know that its food has gone bad. It's not known about the use of tasty salt." "I'll talk to those concerned. I'm assured that the quality of food will increase in the coming days."
