Tax fair begins in Faridpur

FARIDPUR, Sept 17 (BSS): A four-day tax fair, as a part of the country wide program to motivate the citizens for paying taxes has begun here this morning at a local community center.
The fair was inaugurated by Faridpur Sadar Upazilla Parishad chairman Khondoker Mohtesham Hossain Babor as the chief guest with Extra-Assistant Commissioner of Faridpur area-3 tax zone Md. Sajjad Ali Chowdhury in the chair.
In his inaugural speech the chief guest disclosed that the revenue collection in current tax year is very encouraging because the collection figure has reached to Taka 540 billon in comparison to only Taka 100 million just after liberation.
Presenting a gloomy picture of the mentality of the tax payer he pointed out that though there are 3.6 million number Tax Identification Number(TIN) holders in the country only 1.2 million of then pay tax returns regularly. He told the audience that we must develop the habit of paying taxes for the overall development and prosperity of the country.
Income from taxes is being used for ensuring all services to the people by the state and it is our moral duty to enrich the state coffer, he added.
Other speakers laid stress on the expansion of the tax net to increase revenue. The inaugural function was also addressed among others by ADC(Gen) Md. Abdur Rashid, BSS Correspondent Prof. Shahjahan, Income tax lawyer Prof. Rabindra Nath Shaha, AGM of Sonali Bank Abdul Wahab Khan and few tax payers. Twelve stalls have been set up in the fair with the facilities of e-TIN, bank counters and other tax facilities to lessen the hassles of paying taxes and tax returns.
