Taxicab-tanker collision kills 2 in Tangail

TANGAIL, Jan 13 (UNB): Two people were killed as a taxicab and an oil tanker collided head-on on the Bangabandhu Bridge approach road at Sholla in Kalihati upazila while a young man was killed as a truck ran over him while he was engaged in rescue work at the place of occurrence Tuesday.

Identity of the two killed in the taxicab-tanker collision could not be ascertained while the one killed under the truck was identified as Nur Mohammad,30, a resident of Sholla village.

Officer-in-charge of Bangabandhu Bridge (East) Police Station Akheruzzaman said a taxicab heading for Sirjganj collided head-on with an oil tanker from the opposite direction in the area at about 7.15am, leaving the driver of the taxicab and its one passenger dead on the spot.

Two passengers of the taxicab and helper of the oil tanker were injured in the crash. Moment afterwards, a truck bound for Bhuapur from Dhaka crashed into Nur Mohammad and some local people as they were carrying out rescue operation at the place of accident at about 7:45 am, leaving Nur dead on the spot and three others injured.

All the six injured in the two accidents were admitted to Tangail Medical College Hospital. Informed, police recovered the bodies and sent those to the hospital morgue.
