PABNA, Sept 17: The government has taken initiative to repair the ancestral house of legendary actress Suchitra Sen located at the Gopalpur area of the district headquarter. To make an estimate for repairing the house a high official technical team visited the house on Monday saying the previous shape of it would be returned back.

An expert team headed by Bogra regional director of Archeology Md. Badrul Alam estimated the necessary engineering work for the house according to the order of the ministry of cultural affairs.

"The historic house of Suchitra Sen was handed over to the department of archeology. Engineering experts of the department visited the house examining the present condition and estimated the primary cost of the repairing of the house." Badrul Alam said.

After a long legal battle, the ancestral house of the acting legend Suchitra Sen in Pabna town was freed on July, 16, this year, fulfilling the demand of socio-cultural enthusiasts and organisations.

Imam Gazzali Trust, a Jamaat-e-Islami backed organisation, had been running a primary section of an educational institute named Imam Gazzali Institute at the house at Gopalpur since 1987.

The institute was shifted from there as per a Supreme Court order, paving the way for establishing the "Suchitra Sen Smrity Sangrohashala", an archive of memories of Suchitra Sen.

"The ministry of cultural affairs is determined to start repair work of the historic house and the primary repairing work is likely to be finished within November this year," said Md. Saidul Haque Chunnu, president of Suchitra Sen Smrity Shangrakhhan Parishad.

Family members of Suchitra Sen led by her daughter Munmun Sen are likely to visit the house this year, he added.
