Police have recovered the body of a teenage girl in a gunny sack floating in the River Padma in Sadar Upazila of Pabna. The body had its hands tied, reports bdnews24.com.
The floating body was recovered near the river bank adjacent to Balrampur Pirpur in Barara Union around 10am on Wednesday, said Pabna Sadar Police Station chief Tariqul Islam.
The deceased is assumed to be 14 to 16 years old, police say.
The victim's identity, however, has yet to be determined.
Police and locals say that while farmers were going to work in a shoal area in river Padma, they saw a plastic bag floating next to a boat stuck on the river bank.
Being suspicious, a farmer cut the bag open with scissors and found the body of a teenage girl inside.
The body had its hands tied and a bag wrapped around the neck. Later, locals informed police who recovered the body.
Local residents say that around 10:30pm on Tuesday, four middle-aged men were seen roaming around in a car in the area. While going from the riverside area towards Balrampur, the car suddenly broke down.
