RANGPUR, Mar 1 (BSS): Theatre personalities at a discussion here last night called upon the common people as well as dramatists for resisting the current violence in the name of political movement through spreading cultural activities.
They stressed on flourishing our own culture through writing and staging more dramas to awaken the common people on the severity of violence, fundamentalism and militancy through establishing the real spirit of the War of Liberation.
They put special importance on enriching Bengali culture further through strengthening cultural movement, producing more drama artistes and popularising stage and street dramas to establish non-communal spirit in building a peaceful Bangladesh.
Rangpur divisional unit of Bangladesh Group Theatre Federation (BGTF) organised the discussion in the inaugural ceremony of the two-day National Street Drama Festival- 2015 on the Central Shaheed Minar premises in the city.
President of Rangpur Nattya Kendra and former Mayor of defunct Rangpur pourasabha Kazi Mohammad Junnon formally inaugurated the festival and addressed the discussion as the chief guest.
Member of central committee of BGTF and President of Rangpur Nattya Chakra Khondker Abdul Mazid Hiru presided over the function participated by dramatists, drama artistes and cultural personalities, activists and leaders of cultural organisations.
Organising Secretary of Rangpur divisional unit of BGTF Razzaque Murad delivered welcome speech while Assistant General Secretary of Bikon Nattya Kendra Rabeya Akhter Moni moderated the whole function.
General Secretary of District Shilpokola Academy Tauhidur Rahman Tutul, Director of Sarothi Academy Motahar Hossain Dalu, Vice-president of Sarothi Nattya Samproday Jahangir Alam, Chief Secretary of Rangpur Podatik GM Nazu, General Secretary of Bikon Nattya Kendra Nazmul Alam Sajeeb, drama personalities Maksudar Rahman Mukul, Ranjeet Roy, Bullet and Zahid Hossain Lucit, addressed, among others.
The speakers put importance on turning theatre into an honourable profession in the spirit of the War of Liberation so that the dramatists, drama artistes and other people concerned, involved with the cultural activities, could lead dignified life through their professions.
They urged the theatre authorities and dramatists for writing and staging time-befitting dramas to create a renaissance and inspire common people in rooting out social curses, superstations, violence, militancy and communalism to accelerate uplift.
Sarothi Nattya Samproday, Rangpur Nattya Kendra, Rangpur Podatik, Bikon Nattya Kendra, Sarothi Academy, Chetona Nattya Gosthi, Rangpur Theatre, Rangpur Nattya Chakra have been taking part in the street drama festival to flourish culture against violence.
