SIRAJGANJ, Oct 14 (UNB): Three people were arrested on the charge of extorting Tk 0.1 million holding two college students hostage in the science college intersection area of Sirajganj's Ullapara municipality.
The arrestees are Babu Talukder (39), son of Md Tipu Talukder Rifat (24), son of Mintu Talukder and Rahat (36), son of Md Israfil Talukder.
Md. Nazrul Islam, officer-in-charge of Ullapara Model thana, confirmed this information on Saturday afternoon.
He said Arifur Rahman, a student of Sirajganj Government College, and his girlfriend, a student of the same college, were sitting at a coffee house in the Ullapara Science College area on Thursday evening.
At that time, 6 to 7 people harassed them and took pictures of them. At one stage, they took them hostage and demanded Tk 0.25 million.
Arifur's family members were forced to give Tk 0.1 millionin.
Later, police rushed to the spot after getting a phone call from the national emergency number 999 and conducted a drive in the area at night and arrested them, added the OC.
