NOAKHALI, Jun 17 (UNB): A tribunal here on Tuesday convicted a man along with his younger brother and sister for killing his wife in 2005 and sentenced them to death.
The convicts are Ibrahim Khalil, 35, his younger brother Abdullah Mia, 32, and sister Anwara Begum of South Kacchapia village in Subarnachar upazila of the district.
Of the convicts, Abdullah and Anwara tried in absentia.
According to the prosecution, Ayesha Khatun, 22, wife of Ibrahim Khalil was beaten to death by her husband over dowry on May 26, 2005.
Later, Ibrahim along with his brother and sister dumped the body at a paddy field near their house.
On information, Charjabbar police recovered the body and sent it to Sadar hospital morgue for autopsy.
Victim's mother, Sakina Khatun, field a murder case against three people with Charjabbar Police Station.
Police arrested the three accused following the case.
However, Abdullah and Anwara went into hiding after securing bail from a court in December, 2005.
After examining records and witnesses, Noakhali Women and Child Repression Prevention Tribunal Judge Sayeed Ahmed handed down the verdict.
