Two men died while working inside a septic tank reportedly without any protective gear in a newly-constructed building in Chirirbandar upazila of Dinajpur on Wednesday, said police, report agencies.
The accident occurred in the Taltala Para area of Isabpur union around 10:00 am on Wednesday, according to Bazlur Rashid, officer-in-charge of Chirirbandar thana.
The dead are construction worker Aftab (45) and three-wheeler drivers Mabud (35) and Shahidul (38).
A septic tank was under construction at the house of an expatriate worker, Bazlur said. The septic tank became too full of solid waste a few days ago and a worker was opening the lid of it on Wednesday morning.
Mason Altaf Hossain entered the septic tank. When he failed to return, van pullers climbed down the tank, but they suffered the same fate.
A woman's screams drew attention to the accident. Locals rescued one of them, but the other two were dead by the time they were brought out from the tank. The third victim was taken to the Chirirbandar Upazila Health Complex, but his condition deteriorated after he arrived. He was transferred to Rangpur Medical College Hospital, where he later died, the OC said.
