Thrust on adopting modern tech to double food output

RANGPUR, Mar 16 (BSS): Director General of the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) Agriculturist Mir Nurul Alam has directed agriculturists to adopt newer technologies for doubling the country's food production facing the growing challenges.
"To attain the goal, we have to continue evolving newer high yielding crop varieties and cultivate those to meet food demand of growing population by increasing crop intensity side by side with protecting soil health and adapting to climate change," he said.
The DAE chief said this at a workshop on 'Safe Food Production by Using Safe Pesticides' held in the district town on Friday as the chief guest, a press release said on Saturday.
The Rangpur Regional Office of the DAE organised the workshop participated by all deputy directors, district training officers, additional deputy directors, upazila agriculture officers and agriculture extension officers of the DAE from all eight districts in Rangpur division.
The DAE chief directed field-level officials for reaching newly evolved and latest agriculture technologies and crop varieties to farmers to further boost production of safe food for attaining sustainability in the agriculture sector.
He suggested the farmers for enhancing production of safe food by reducing use of pesticides to the reasonable level to improve soil health and make the government's plan of doubling the country's food production successful.
Earlier, the DAE chief visited Burirhat Horticulture Centre in Rangpur and exchanged views with officials there and directed them for producing quality saplings of high yielding varieties of fruits, vegetables and spicy crops.
He also visited dissemination of agricultural technologies and farm activities at different places in Rangpur and Gaibandha districts and exchanged views with local farmers and field level agriculture extension officials.
