Thrust on creating awareness about osteoporosis

RAJSHAHI, July 08 (BSS): A two-day osteoporosis awareness programme ended at Rajshahi University (RU) on Monday with a call to creating awareness among common people about the disease.
"Osteoporosis is now adjudged as a silent killer. So, massive awareness is needed about the disease which can lead to increased risk of bone fracture at older age," speakers at the programme said.
Rajshahi University Teachers' Association (RUTA) arranged the programme at Senate Building of the university aimed at disseminating knowledge and updates on how to avoid the risk of the disease.
Speaking on the occasion as chief guest RU VC Prof Abdus Sobhan blamed adulterated, substandard and forged powder milks for calcium deficit of the children which leads to their low bone mass and deterioration of bone tissue.
