RANGPUR, June 30: A 15-day long timber, fruits and medicinal tree fair-2015 has begun at Rangpur Zilla school ground in the city on Monday.
Divisional Commissioner, Rangpur Dilwar Bakht formally inaugurated the fair as the chief guest while Deputy Commissioner Rangpur MD. Rahat Anwar presided over the opening ceremony.
Rangpur District Administration, Social Forestry Division and Department of Agriculture Extension jointly organised the fair.
The fair was organised in a bid to make the people of the region aware about tree plantation and social forestation.
A total of 50 stalls have been set up in the fair. Saplings of different varieties of timber, fruit bearing and medicinal trees are being displayed in the fair.
Some nursery owners said last year they earned satisfactory profit from the sale of different varieties of saplings. This year they are optimistic of earning more profit.
Abdur Rahman Mintu, a visitor told The Financial Express on Tuesday that he came to the fair along with his family members to enjoy the fair and also buy saplings of some timber and fruit bearing trees.
