Tk 23874.8m SME loan disbursed in Khulna region in first 6 months this yr

JHENIDAH, Aug 20: Tk. 23874.8 million SME loan was disbursed in Khulna region in the first six months of calendar year 2014, BB, Khulna sources said.
According to sources in SME and Special Programmes department of Bangladesh Bank (BB), Khulna, 37 commercial banks and 5 financial institutions of the region disbursed Tk 23874.8 million  up to June 30, 2014 against their annual Small and Medium Entrepreneurs (SME) loan disbursement  target of  Tk. 48008.6 million in 2014 (January-December) and the percentage of disbursement is 50.
The annual disbursement target of the state-owned commercial banks was Tk 7312.2 million, and they distributed Tk 5190.5 million, which is 70.98 percent of the yearly target. Besides, Tk 728.5 million SME loan was disbursed among a total of 1032 women entrepreneurs of Khulna region up to June, 2014.
BB introduces policies in view of the directives of the government in respect with development of the Small and Medium Entrepreneurs, and its regional offices take initiatives to implement them, sources said.
BB directed all the banks and financial institutions to give maximum Tk. 2.5 million to women entrepreneurs each against personal guarantee at 10 percent rate of interest (under refinancing facilities).
 Meetings are held in this regard on the quarterly basis to review the activities taken by the banks, and the progress of disbursement and recovery are reviewed in their head offices, sources said.
While visiting Shazeda Fashion's workshop at Trizoni intersection in Jhenidah town, this correspondent found that cutting master and tailors were passing busy hours making both gents' and ladies' items. Shazeda Begum, a woman entrepreneur, told the FE, "Receiving Tk. 0.49 million SME loan from Bangladesh Development Bank Ltd (BDBL), I'm now self-reliant after running the business well."
Chitta Ranjan Kundu, Assistant General Manager of BDBL, Jhenidah branch told the Financial Express, "As a result of the activities of SME and Special Programs department of BB, Khulna, small industries have been established, and women entrepreneurs are  being provided with SME loan at 10 percent rate of interest under refinancing facilities."
