SYLHET, June 24: Setting up of a wildlife centre in Sylhet division is nearing completion and is expected to be completed in a year. The much-desired project styled 'Sylhet Wildlife Protection Centre' is being established at the city's suburban Tilagar Eco park forest at a cost of about Tk 50 million (Tk5 crore), official sources informed.
On completion the site would be opened for visitors and tourists on nominal fees.
It will have tiger, deer, zebra, monkey, peacock, wild cat, civet, bear, birds etc.
Of the total, Tk 32.6 million had already been spent in the last and current fiscal for setting the different establishments on the huge forest spread on over 117 acres area on Tilagarh forest, officials informed.
These include, construction of figent aviary, animal hospital, animal sheds, construction of internal walkway, boundary wall, bear shed, herbivorous animal shed, children corner, visitors shed, etc. Besides, some internal roads, mural and others would be constructed in the coming fiscal year.
However, the authority have not yet prepared the organogram for the much-awaited project.
Contacted, the Divisional Forest Officer, Sylhet Md. Delwar Hossain told this correspondent Wednesday, most of the major works are complete and the whole project would be ready by the 2015-2016 fiscal and it would be opened to visitors immediately. It would be a unique addition to tourists sites of the region, said the official.
Everyday, thousands of visitors from differnt districts as well from other parts of the Sylhet region travel to Sylhet for visiting the different sites like the shrines of Hajrat Shahjalal (RA) and Hajrat Shahporan (RA), Jafflong forest, tea gardens, Jainta Rajbari, stone quarries of Bholaganj, Manipuri clustrers, Madhabkunda water fall, Lalakhal, Bisnakandi etc.
The sanctuary would be an attractive location for all, said Md. Layes Uddin, director of the Sylhet Chamber of Commerce & Industry (SCCI). "We demand the government to take steps for making the zoo type protection centre an attractive place for the visitors in general," he added.
