The photo shows local passengers waiting for bus at an upazila town in Chattogram on Wednesday — bdnews24.com CHATTOGRAM, Oct 18 (bdnews24.com): A 12-hour transport strike has disrupted bus services on 20 routes in Chattogram, Bandarban, Cox's Bazar district, and various upazilas.
The strike, called by the 'Chattogram-Southern Region-Cox's Bazar-Bandarban District Road Transport Owner Worker Unity Council', began at 6 am on Wednesday.
The council is pressing home a range of demands, including the cancellation of bus services operating without route permits on the Chattogram-Cox's Bazar Highway.
Mohammad Musa, the council's senior joint convener, said, "Previously, on Oct 9, we called a two-hour symbolic strike over the same set of demands. As no action was taken by the authorities, a 12-hour strike has been called today."
No buses are operating on Cox's Bazar and Bandarban routes except for those arriving from Dhaka, Musa said. Due to the strike, bus services have also been suspended on routes in Anwara, Banshkhali, Satkania, and Lohagara upazilas. The situation has caused suffering among professionals who regularly commute to Chattogram city.
