SYLHET, Oct 19 (UNB): Several hours into the enforcement, Sylhet Road Transport Workers' Union on Sunday afternoon postponed its indefinite transport strike in the district until November 5.
The decision to postpone the strike came at a meeting between the striking workers and the deputy commissioner, said additional DC AZM Nurul Haque.
President of the workers' union Selim Ahmed Falik said they postponed the strike as the administration assured them of meeting their demands.
He also threatened to go for the strike again from November 6 if their demands go unheeded by the time.
Earlier in the morning, the transport workers went on an indefinite strike in the district, protesting Saturday's clash with CNG auto-rickshaw workers at Dakkhin Surma Bus Terminal.
Due to the strike enforced at 6am, the road communications between Sylhet and other parts of the country came to a halt, causing immense sufferings to commuters.
At least 50 people were injured in the clash between the three-wheeler workers and bus workers on Saturday.
At least 20 buses and 25 auto-rickshaws were also vandalised during the two-hour long melee.
