Trial on repression against children, women demanded

RAJSHAHI, Aug 25: Karmajibi Nari, Rajshahi unit, organised a human chain at Alupatti crossing of the city on Monday noon on the 20th 'rape and murder anniversary' of Yeasmin.

Yeasmin, a juvenile girl, was raped and brutally murdered by police twenty years ago on the same day in Dinajpur.

Presided over by Fatema Sarker, Programme Director of Karmajibi Nari, Rajshahi, the human chain programme was addressed, among others, by General Secretary of Jatiya  Mohila Parishad, Rajshahi Kalpana Roy, Journalist Mustafizur Rahman Alam, Dr. FMA Zahid, Commissioner Bilkis Banu, Social Worker Shahina Akhter, NGO worker Tahera Khatun and Shahjahan Ali Borjahan.

Speakers at the human chain expressed with deep disappointment that the violation and torture against the children and women are still continuing and the victims are not getting justice.

They also mentioned with anxiety that despite efforts of the government, campaign of non-government organisations, torture and murder of children and women were continuing and was rather increased at present days.

They demanded to settle the children and women torture, rape and murder cases through forming special tribunal and through Speedy Trial Tribunal.
