Turmeric cultivated in 3316 hectares of land in Tangail

TANGAIL, Feb 1: Farmers cultivated turmeric in 3316 hectares of land in 12 upazilas of the district this year.

According to Department of Agricultural Extension Tangail sources of the total cultivated turmeric land in the district in Tangail Sadar Upazila 70 hectares have been brought under turmeric with a production target of 267 metric tonnes.       

Of them 10 hectares in Bashail upazila with production target of 38 metric tonnes, 10 hectares in Kalihati upazila with the production target of 38 metric tonnes, 1250 hectares in Ghatail upazila with a production target of 4772 metric tonnes, 60 hectares land in Nagorpur upazila with production target of 228 MT, in Mirzapur upazila.

Shariful Islam, sub assistant of DAE Tangail, said the Department of Agriculture Extension set up a target this year for the district at a total 12661 metric tonnes of turmeric. Hilly areas such as Modhupur, Shakhipur and Ghatail upazilas are producing maximum turmeric in the district, he added.
