KHAGRACHHARI, June 4 (UNB): Two people, including a woman, died after inhaling toxic gas in a septic tank at Singhopara village in Matiranga upazila on Thursday morning.
The deceased were identified as Mir Hossain (25), son of Abu Taher and Mariam Bibi (42), wife of Siraj Miah of the village.
Witnesses said Mir Hossain fell into the septic tank breaking slab of the latrine around 8:45am.
Hearing his screams, his two neighbours Mariam and Mokbul Hossain came to his rescue and they also fell into the tank.
They also lost consciousness due to toxic gas inhalation. After half hour's frantic efforts, local pulled them out.
Mir and Mariam died on way to hospital. Mohammad Moniruzzaman Bokaul, upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) of Matiranga upazila, confirmed the incident.
