Two die in Satkhira, Khulna road mishaps

SATKHIRA, July 16 (UNB): A woman was killed after being hit by a truck in Jhikra Haritala area of Kalaroa upazila early Tuesday.

The deceased was identified as Kamla Rani Haldar, 52, wife of late Nitai Haldar of Jhikra village and a worker of Kalaroa Fish Market.

Munirul Gias, officer-in-charge of Kalaroa Police Station, said a stone-laden truck overturned by the Jashore-Satkhira highway around 6am and hit Kamla Rani who was going to the market.

The woman died on the spot, he said, adding that they recovered the body.

BSS adds: In Khulna, an electrician of Military Engineer Services (MES) of Khulna Jahanabad Cantonment was killed in a road mishap this morning in city's Shiromony area on the Khulna-Jashore Highway.

The deceased was identified as Billion Hossain (45) of South Ramzanpur area in Madaripur district.

The accident took place when driver of a speeding truck lost control on the vehicle and ran over Hossain during his morning walk, killing him on the spot, said Shafiqul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Khanjahan Ali Police Station.
