Two minor schoolgirls drown in Chuadanga

CHUADANGA, July 21: Two minor schoolgirls drowned in a pond in village Pirpurkullah of Karpashdanga union under Damurhuda Upazila of the district Sunday afternoon.
The deceased were identified as Shulee Khatun (09), daughter of Siddique Ali and a resident of Pirpurkullah and Naeema Khatun (08), daughter of Laltu Mia of the same village. Both were student of class three of local government primary school under Damurhuda Upazila.
The victim's family members and local sources said Shulee and her fellow Naeema along with Shulee's grandmother Oviron Khatun went to a pond for taking bath near their house in the afternoon yesterday. All on a sudden they slipped into deep water of the pond and drowned as they did not know how to swim.
Schoolboy killed in pillar collapse
Another message from Our Correspondent adds: A minor schoolboy was killed as a pillar collapsed on him Baganpara area of district town Sunday afternoon under Chuadanga Sadar Upazila of the district.
The deceased was identified as Shagor (07), son of Abdullah and also a student of class one of Oldjium Government Primary School of the town and a resident of Baganpara of the district headquarters.
Locals and victim's family sources said while Shagor and his playmates was playing beside an abandoned building in the area, suddenly a pillar of the building fell on him. He sustained critical injuries in his head.
He was rushed to Chuadanga Sadar Hospital soon and later shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital as his condition deteriorated. He died on the way to Dhaka.
