UGC asks IU to hold entry test under cluster system

ISLAMIC UNIVERSITY, Feb 10: University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh has issued a notification asking Islamic University (IU) to organise the admission test for the academic year 2023-24 under the cluster system.

The notification signed by Mohammad Jaminur Rahman, director of (public university management) of UGC, was issued on Thursday.

According to the notification, the cluster admission test system was termed a proven successful method at a meeting of the Commission held on January 14.

With participation of the vice chancellors of the relevant universities, including Islamic universities, the meeting was organised to discuss the acceptance of cluster admission tests in public universities in the academic year 2023-24.

In order to start the process of enrollment of students in the academic year 2023-24, several meetings of the admission committee of the clustered universities were held in presence of Islamic University.

As the news published in various newspapers came to the attention of the Commission under the title 'Islamic universities not participating in cluster admission test systems', when the convener of the cluster admission committee from the Commission was spoken to, he said he was not aware of this matter.

In view of this, the Commission authorities convened a view-exchange meeting on February 08 with participation of six teachers representing the university and the Islamic University authorities to discuss the issue.

Later, the Commission was informed, expressing regret for not being able to attend the view-exchange meeting in a letter signed by six teacher representatives of the university.

Earlier, after the view-exchange meeting held on January 14 in presence of the Islamic University authorities, various important decisions were taken in several meetings of the admission committee of the GST cluster of universities, which are not subject to change at this stage.

The Commission authorities discussed the issue in detail with the Ministry of Education.

Professor Dr Anwar Hossain, president of the teacher's association, said the general meeting of the teachers' association decided that Islamic University (IU) would not be in the cluster admission test system.
