Urea crisis in peak season in Khulna

KHULNA, Sept 17: An acute crisis of urea fertiliser has been prevailing in nine Upazilas of Khulna district in the peak season of Aman cultivation. The district administration has issued a letter to the concerned department for allocation of one thousand metric tonnes urea fertiliser to meet the crisis period of the season.

The Agriculture Department has fixed a target of 91,758 hectares of land of the district to cultivate Aman in this season. Meanwhile, 92,140 hectares of land has already been cultivated. Moreover, Aman cultivation has been increased in Aila and Sidr affected area including Koyra, Dacop, Paikgacha and Dumuria Upazila this season.   

Source said that 2,855 metric tonnes urea fertiliser demanded of the concerned authority for September. But the authority allocated only 1,690 tonnnes and there is a shortage of about one thousand tonne. Deputy Director of Agriculture Extension Department Kazi Anisuzzaman issued a letter in this regard to the district administration.
