Vegetable prices fall due to bumper yield in Gaibandha

GAIBANDHA, Dec 30: The prices of winter vegetables have come down in recent days as their production and supplies have gone up in the district.
Local wholesale markets are witnessing various types of vegetables this winter season, the correspondent found during a visit on Saturday.
Traders said that due to the increases in production and supplies of all vegetables to local markets, their prices have started to drop.
In local markets, potato is now selling at Tk 40 to Tk 45 a kg while Chilli at Tk 30 and onion at Tk 45 to Tk 55 per kg.
Eggplant is being sold at Tk 15 to Tk 20 per kg, Radish at Tk 10 to Tk 15, tomato at Tk 40 to Tk 50, beans at Tk 20 to Tk 30, flower coppice at Tk 7 to Tk 10, coriander leaf at Tk 25 to Tk 30 per kg and cabbage at Tk 20 to Tk 25 per piece.
Shaheen Mia, who came to the market, said that now all winter vegetables are available in local markets. The prices of vegetables have dropped drastically.
Sadu Mia, a wholesaler in old Badiyakhali market, said that the production and supplies of vegetables to the markets have increased in recent days.
"If the weather remains favourable, the prices of vegetables will fall further," he added.
