NILPHAMARI, Nov 6: Early cultivated winter vegetables started appearing in plenty in the markets in Nilphamari district.
Vegetables such as balsam apple, bean, brinjal, cabbage, cauliflower, gourd, lady's finger, radish, red, amaranth are being cultivated commercially in the high lands by the farmers of the district every year.
At this time the price of these vegetables is exorbitant as a result of which the farmers are being profited by selling those in the markets. However the production of these vegetables is very low in comparison to the seasonal ones.
Sources said a good number of farmers are becoming economically solvent by cultivating these early marketable vegetables. At the same time this trend also creating employment to thousands of farm labourers during this jobless period of Ashwin and Kartik.
