GOPALGANJ, Dec 17: The 44th Victory Day-2014 was observed in  a befitting manner in Gopalganj Tuesday.

The day began with firing of 31 gun-salute, hoisting of national flag by Md. Khalilur Rahman, Deputy Commissioner. Gopalganj at just after sunrise. Different political parties, freedom fighters, journalists and different organisations placed floral wreaths at the Independent Monument of Gopalganj town.

In the morning school students, rovers' scouts, BNCC, police, orphans and others participated in a march-past and gymnastics show at Sheikh Kamal Stadium in Gopalganj town.

Nilphamari

Our Correspondent from Nilphamari says: Nilphamari district observed the Victory Day paying deep homage to the freedom fighters of the country.

At zero hour Tuesday 21 gun salute heralded the beginning of the celebration in the district town.

Different political social and other organisations placed flower wreaths at the Shaheed Minar. Children of different educational institutions demonstrated colourful parade and cultural show at the local stadium.

A discussion meeting was also held at the Shilpakala Academy. In the dusk houses and shops were illuminated with colourful lights.    

Rangpur

Our Correspondent from Rangpur reports: The 44th Victory Day was celebrated here in Rangpur in a befitting manner on Tuesday, recalling the supreme sacrifices made by millions of people.

In Rangpur the day began with 31 gun salutes. Thereafter City Mayor Alhaj Sharfuddin Ahmed Jhantu, Divisional Commissioner Md. Dilwar Bakht, DIG Humayun Kabir, Deputy Commissioner Farid Ahmed, Police Super Abdur Razzaque, different political parties, socio-cultural organisations and educational institutions placed floral wreaths at the central Shahid Minar in the City and paid tributes to the heroes of the liberation war.

A colourful march past by Police, Ansar, VDP and children youth organisations took place at Rangpur stadium.

Khulna

Our Khulna Correspondent reports: The 44th Victory Day was observed here in Khulna on Monday as part of the countrywide celebrations with a renewed pledge to safeguard the stability and integrity of the country and also ensure peace, progress and prosperity through eliminating poverty of the teeming millions of our country.

The programme was heralded  with the booming of 31 gun salute at the local Collectorate Building premises and placing of wreathes at the altar of the of the Shaheed Smriti Saudha at Gollamari at mid-night on Tuesday. National flags were hosted at all public and private buildings.
