BOGURA, Dec 15: Farmers in the district are worried as their bean plants are turning into yellow from over last couple of weeks.

The Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) office sources said over 560 hectares of land have been brought under bean cultivation this season.

DAE officials said bean plants on over 300 hectares of the land have already been affected with a virus-related disease and the plants turn into yellow gradually.

Farmer Hamidur Rahmand of Sadar upazila said, "I have cultivated bean on 33 decimals of land this season spending Tk 6,000. But my whole bean field has turned into yellow for a virus-related disease."

Sub-assistant agriculture officer of Faridur DAE Rahman said poor quality of seeds is one of the main reasons for such situation.

Affected fields would not be able to give a good yield, he added.
