VU calls to save environment thru planting more trees

RAJSHAHI, Sept 27: With the slogan, 'Let's be conscious and make others conscious,' Varendra University, the only government approved private university in Rajshahi, organised an awareness programme at Sujanagar upazila parishad premises Friday.

Presided over by Professor Dr. Osman Gani Talukder, Vice-Chancellor of Varendra University, the function was attended, among others by Abul Kashem, Chairman of Sujanagar Upazila Parishad as the chief guest, Shakhawat Hossain, Upazila Nirabahi Officer of Sujanagar, Kamruzzaman Ujjal, Secretary General of VU Trust, Professor Dr. Saidur Rahman, former Vice-Chancellor of Rajshahi University and Shahinuzzaman, General Secretary of Sujanagar Municipal Awami League as special guests.

The theme of the function was to create awareness among people about saving the environment by planting more trees, increasing of fish production by releasing fish fries in free-water bodies and to release captive birds to the open sky.

In a written statement Professor Dr. Osman Gani Talukder, Vice-Chancellor of Varendra University appealed to the people to become conscious to save our environment.

He also mentioned that he at first initiated pisciculture in Adamdighi upazila of Bogra district by adopting fish farming in five ponds 30 years ago. Following his example, other people were encouraged in pisciculture and now Adamdighi is one of the best upazilas in respect of production of fish fries in the country.

He also mentioned that becoming a bit conscious we can save a huge electricity and there would be no problem of load shedding.

He appealed to the people to plant saplings of trees because, he said, by planting trees, we can provide fruits and vegetables for family, wood for all and can serve the world by providing oxygen and decreasing carbon-dioxide.
