Water level in rivers rises in Gaibandha

GAIBANDHA, Jul 1 (BSS): Water level in all the major rivers except the Ghagot flowing through the district rose sharply in last 24 four hours till this morning due to on rush of hilly waters from the upstream inundating the char areas.
Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB) office sources said here the water level in the Brahmaputra rose by 2 cm, the Teesta 33 cm, the Karatoa 3 cm while the Ghagot decreased by 5 cm during the period.
Though the water level in the three rivers increased, the Brahmaputra at Fulchharighat point was flowing 157 cm, the Teesta at Sundarganj point 152 cm, the Karatoa at Katakhali Bridge point 282 cm below their respective danger levels.
On the other hand, the Ghagot river at New Bridge Road point of the district town was blowing 122 cm below its danger level, sources said.
With the rise of water level in the rivers, the low lying areas particularly the chars in Sundarganj upazila, Sadar Upazila, Fulchhari upazila and Saghata upazila have been inundated creating untold suffering to the flood victims.
