NILPHAMARI, Feb 2: Due to non-availability of required volume of water in the Teesta river there created an uncertainty about targeted supply of water to the farmers of the Teesta Irrigation Project area.

Water supply through the main canal, main branch canal, secondary canal, tertiary canal and drainage canals has started form the 21st of January in this Boro season.

Sources said Teesta Irrigation Project has set the target to provide irrigation water in 28,500 hectares of land in this Boro season in its command area. But the beneficiary farmers of the irrigation area mentioned that water rationing and rotating device has been introduced to overcome the water shortage situation in the Teesta river.

Rotation in supplying water has been introduced in the irrigation project region of Lalmonirhat, Rangpur, Dinajpur and Nilphamari districts.

Teesta Irrigation project sources said water flow in the Teesta river was 1300 cusec some days earlier but now it has come down to 900 cusec that created anxiety both to the Teesta project operators and the farmers as well.
