GAIBANDHA, Mar 06: Wheat cultivation has decreased to some extent in the northern district as farmers grow other crops which prices are high in the market.
Farmers said wheat price has not increased significantly, but the prices of some other crops have skyrocketed in the market.
"So, we grow other crops which prices are high," many a farmer said.
According to sources at the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE), wheat has been cultivated on 3,162 hectares of land in the district this season.
It was 3,307 hectares last year. So, wheat cultivation has decreased by 145 hectares in one year.

Local farmers are optimistic about a good harvest, the DAE sources said.
Gaibandha Sadar upazila has 137 hectares, Fulchhari upazila, 260 in Saghata upazila, 461 in Sadullapur upazila, 300 in Palashbari upazila, 150 thousand 1121 hectares in Sundarganj upazila and 733 hectares in Gobindaganj upazila.
Farmers say that in the past year, the potato price has increased due to an abnormal rise in the cultivation of wheat, many have cultivated potatoes. This is why wheat cultivation has decreased this year.
